An educator entering a welcoming North East Victorian early childhood environment

NERPSA Employee Induction

Welcome to NERPSA Employee Induction

This opening page explains what the induction is, how to complete it, where to find current information and how it connects with your service orientation and ongoing professional responsibilities.

Starting safely and professionally

Welcome to North East Regional Pre-school Association. This induction introduces the organisation wide information, expectations and responsibilities you need to understand when beginning work with NERPSA.

It covers child safety, reporting, professional conduct, supervision, health and emergency responsibilities, privacy, inclusion, quality requirements, staff systems and the support available to you.

The induction sits alongside your Letter of Employment, Position Description, Staff Handbook, Code of Conduct, current NERPSA policies, required training and the local orientation completed at your service.

Child safety

Our highest priority

Children’s safety, wellbeing, dignity, rights and best interests must remain central to every decision, interaction, routine and environment.

Professional practice

Your role matters

Every employee contributes to safe, respectful, inclusive and high quality services. Your conduct and decisions affect children, families and colleagues.

Support

Ask early

You are not expected to know everything immediately. You are expected to use current information, ask questions and seek guidance when needed.

How to complete the induction

Work through the course in order. Each section introduces information you need and identifies any action required from you.

  1. Read each sectionWork through the information carefully and open supporting material where it is provided.
  2. Complete the teal Required Action sectionsThese activities help you connect the information with your role, responsibilities and service.
  3. Use the current links and documentsOpen current policies, procedures, forms and staff resources rather than relying on a saved or printed copy.
  4. Ask questions as you goSpeak with the appropriate service leader, Education Manager, Human Resources Manager or authorised manager when something is unclear.
  5. Complete your service orientation separatelyThe local orientation shows how organisation wide requirements apply in the actual service where you work.
  6. Complete the final acknowledgementAt the end of the induction, confirm that you completed the course and understand your continuing responsibilities.
Required actions

What the teal sections mean

Teal Required Action sections contain the practical task for that part of the induction. Some ask you to locate information, consider a workplace situation, confirm understanding or discuss something during your service orientation.

Only activities that serve a genuine induction purpose will be included. Written reflections will not be collected unless the page clearly provides a submission process.

Education Managers may discuss induction content during probation visits, service visits, staff meetings or professional conversations.

Do not wait for the induction to act. If you become aware of an immediate danger, emergency, child safety concern or direct reporting responsibility, protect safety and follow the required pathway without delay.

How the different parts fit together

The online induction is important, but it is only one part of beginning and continuing work safely.

1

NERPSA-wide induction

Introduces shared expectations, child safe responsibilities, policies, systems, conduct requirements and practical employment information.

2

Service orientation

Introduces the children, team, physical environment, emergency arrangements, supervision risks, routines and local procedures at your service.

3

Probation and ongoing learning

Continues through support, feedback, policy updates, team discussion, NERPSA Learning, reflective practice and professional development.

The induction does not replace service orientation. Before working independently, you need to understand the children’s individual needs, emergency arrangements, supervision requirements, local environment and people responsible for supporting you.

Use the right source of information

NERPSA information is held in different places. Always use the current approved online version.

Required action

Check that you are ready to begin

This check confirms that you understand the induction process. Your selections are saved in this browser on this device.

Complete all four checks before continuing.

Questions before you begin

Do I need to remember everything immediately?

No. You need to understand the key expectations, know where to find current information and seek help early. Some responsibilities, particularly child safety and emergency responsibilities, require immediate action.

Does the induction replace mandatory external training?

No. It does not replace qualifications, screening checks, registrations, first aid, child safety training or any other training required for your position.

What if online information differs from a saved document?

Use the current approved online policy, procedure or staff resource and seek guidance if anything remains unclear.

What happens after I finish the online induction?

Complete the final acknowledgement and any outstanding service orientation or onboarding requirements. Your learning and responsibilities continue through probation, supervision, policy updates and professional development.
